- While hiding in a bunker after the Warsaw Uprising, Bernard Goldstein met Spigelman: "Another member of the group was the sweater-maker Spiegelman, who had participated in the uprising in the Treblinka death camp with our comrade Yankel Wiernik. They had escaped together. [...] Spiegelman caught a severe cold during a night expedition when he went out of a burning cellar into the December frost. He contracted pneumonia and died."
