Name (standard) – Standard name search. After typing in the text here, you will find names containing the exact text you typed in, or those of which the text is a part, without taking into account the size of the characters (e.g. searching for “ewa” will result in “Ewa”, “Batszewa” etc.). Only one of the name search fields (standard or DM Soundex) should be filled in.
Surname (standard) – Standard name search. After typing in the text here, you will search for names that contain the exact text you typed in or of which the text you typed in is a part, without taking into account the size of the characters (e.g. searching for “gold” will give results such as “Gold”, “Goldman” or “Ningold”). Only one of the name search fields (Standard or DM Soundex) needs to be completed.
Father’s name – Searching for father’s name. Entering the first three letters will show a hint (all the father’s names in the database containing the given letters will be displayed); for the search you can choose one of the hints or enter further letters.
Name (DM Soundex) – DM Soundex is a phonetic search, especially for Slavic and Yiddish languages, which finds values that sound similar. After entering a minimum of three letters of text here (e.g. “eva”), we will search for names that sound similar, such as “Ahuwa”, “Jehoszua” and others. You only need to fill in one of the name search fields (standard or DM Soundex).
Name (DM Soundex) – DM Soundex is a phonetic search, especially for Slavic and Yiddish languages, which finds values that sound similar. After entering a minimum of three letters of text here (e.g. “Lipszyc”), we will search for names that sound similar, such as “Lifszyc”, “Liwszyc” or “Lipska”. Only one of the fields for the name search (standard or DM Soundex) should be filled in.
Mother’s name – Searching for the mother’s name. Entering the first three letters will show a hint (all the mother’s names in the database containing the given letters will be displayed); for the search you can choose one of the hints or enter the next letters.
Hommaiden names – Searching by maiden names; the result will show persons whose maiden name or maiden name of their mother contains the text entered (searching for “gold” will result in persons for whom one of these names is e.g. “Gold”, “Goldman” or “Stueckgold”); selecting the first three letters will show a hint.
Age – Searching for a person by age. The slider shows the age range of people in the database (or in the last search); narrowing the range and then pressing the “Search” button will search for people whose age is within the set limits. If the sources give a different age of a person, the lower age is taken into account for search purposes (e.g. a person aged 67 or 71 is treated as 67 for search purposes).
Date of birth – Searching a person by date or year of birth. DD.MM.YYYYY is recorded in the date of birth database. With less detailed data, the month of birth (in words) or only the year is given. You can search by each of these criteria. The search will be carried out on persons for whom the date of birth field contains the given value.
Gender – Searching by gender allows only women or men to be found; a hint shows the number of women and men for the search.
Countries – Searching by country of residence of a person before the war; the hints show a list of countries from which persons in the database or in the current search with the number of persons from a given country.
Cities – Searching by city. The search finds records for which the city of birth, the city (or cities) of residence before the war or the city (cities) of residence during the war meets the search criteria; the search “warszawa” will result in all persons who were born in Warsaw, lived in Warsaw before the war or found themselves in Warsaw during the war. Selecting the first three letters shows a hint.
Profession – Searching by profession. After entering the first few letters we get a hint – all professions containing the letters entered in the name (e.g. entering “doctor” will show a list of professions, e.g. “dentist” or “pediatrician”).
Source – Searching by sources of information. After entering the first few letters we get a hint – sources containing the given letters in the name. More information about the sources used, their abbreviations, and a full list of them can be found in the sources tab.
Notes – Searching by notes – additional information related to the person. After entering the first few letters we get a hint – text containing the given letters (e.g. suicide).
Sort by – (ascending or descending) by:
– date of addition
– names of persons
– the city of residence.
Page – number of records shown on one page; you can choose to display search results after 10, 25, 50, 100, 250, 500 or 1000 records on one page.
