First Name (DM Soundex)
DM Soundex is a phonetic search designed especially for Slavic and Yiddish languages. Names that sound similar will be found. Entering at least 3 letters (e.g. “Ewa” will search in addition to the name you are looking for (here: “Ewa”) also names that sound similar, e.g. “Ahuwa”, “Jehoszua” and others. You can fill in only one of the first name search fields – Latin letters or DM Soundex.

Age
Searching for a person by age. The slider shows the age range of people in the database (or in the last search); narrowing the range and then pressing the “Search” button will search for people whose age is within the set limits. If the sources give a different age of a person, the lower age is taken into account for search purposes (e.g. a person aged 67 or 71 is treated as 67 for search purposes).
Date of birth
Search by date of birth. Dates are in the format DD.MM.YYYY. When only the month is known, it is given in words. Sample search results “20” – born persons 20.12.1860, or in 1920.
Gender
Searching by gender allows only women or men to be found; a hint shows the number of women and men for the search.
Countries
Searching by country of residence of a person before the war; the hints show a list of countries from which persons in the database or in the current search with the number of persons from a given country.
Cities (standard)
Search by cities of birth, residence before or during the war that meet the criteria, but only with the use of Latin characters (without diacritics – Polish and foreign). Searching for “warsaw” will result in all people who were born in Warsaw, lived in Warsaw before the war, or ended up in Warsaw during the war. Profession
Search by occupation. After entering the first few letters, we will get a hint – all professions containing the letters entered in the name (e.g. entering “merchant” will show e.g. “timber merchant”, ” merchant, shop owner” etc.).

Searching for “Połaniec” will result in all people who were born in Połaniec (or similarly sounding “Falenica”), lived here before the war, or found themselves during the war. Only one of the city search fields can be completed – standard or DM Soundex.
Date of death
Search by date of death. When only the date of deportation is known, it is given here. Dates are in the format DD.MM.YYYY. When only the month is known, it is given in words. Sample search results for “12”: people murdered on 10.12.1942, on 12.08.1943 …
Place of death
Not all victims of the Treblinka camp were murdered in the camp. Some people died “on the way to”, others in another place “during the deportation to Treblinka”. Sometimes different places of death are given for one person. One can search for places other than Treblinka.
